Dainith takes top finance post at DMGT

Newspaper publisher Daily Mail & General Trust reported improved trading and unveiled a new finance director yesterday after Peter Williams announced plans to step down next year after 19 years in the job.

Stephen Dainith, chief financial officer at US-based financial group Dow Jones, will take over in March.

In a trading update, DMGT reported that underlying revenue rose 2 per cent in the 11 months to the end of August as both its business-to-business operations and consumer media grew.

National advertising rose 6 per cent in the period with the Daily Mail increasing market share but fell by 7 per cent at the firm's regional titles as weakness in recruitment advertising continued.
