Crieff Hydro taps into £5m funding as doors reopen to holidaymakers

The historic Perthshire hotel forms the heart of one of the most popular holiday resorts in Scotland.

The family-run business, which was founded in 1868 and now owns and operates seven hotels across Scotland, secured a £5 million facility through the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS) from Santander UK.

The finance support package has helped to support the firm through the challenges of lockdown and a sharp drop in income when the hotels closed their doors in March.

The business has focused on preparing to reopen and has begun to welcome back guests this week as Scotland’s hospitality sector attempts to get back on its feet.

Stephen Leckie, chief executive of Crieff Hydro, said: “Our relationship with Santander has always gone beyond banking. Now we can focus on reopening and we can’t wait to welcome our guests back.”

Kirsty Johnston, relationship director at Santander UK, added: “Crieff Hydro is a fantastic business that puts its guests at the very heart of everything it does. By working with them to provide support through CBILS we are delighted that they’ll be ready to reopen and offer the warm welcome and range of facilities its guests have come to expect.”
