The first “business briefing” event to be hosted by the charity, which seeks to forge stronger links between the cultural and corporate sectors, takes place today and will focus on the main types of insurance cover an organisation might need.

The session will be delivered by Euan Drysdale of insurance broker Keegan & Pennykid, who said: “The vast majority of charities and not-for-profit organisations are fairly small, and often have not had any previous experience of organising cover for what’s effectively a business.

“The workshop is all about explaining the things they’ll need to consider, and how best to go about getting cover that’s appropriate and won’t break the bank.”

Edinburgh-based Keegan & Pennykid, which was acquired by mutual healthcare and insurance specialist Benenden last year, has worked with the arts and voluntary sectors for more than 35 years, and Drysdale said: “They could teach the commercial sector a thing or two about health and safety and having proper policies and risk assessments in place.”

The second Arts & Business Scotland workshop will be delivered on 3 November by Caroline Donaldson, director of Kynesis Coaching, and is aimed at chief executives.
