Coding academy launches Simul8 skills bursary

Scotland’s digital skills academy has launched a scholarship to fund one “outstanding” applicant through its coding course.

The government-backed CodeClan initiative, which opens its doors next month, said the bursary has been funded by software company Simul8.

Overall, the Edinburgh-based academy aims to produce 20 software developers with every 16-week course.

Rebecca Heaney, head of student recruitment, said: “Scotland’s digital economy is thriving but the skills shortage is a real problem which threatens to put the brakes on future growth.”

The Simul8 scholarship is open to applicants of all ages, but they must have no previous experience of working in the digital technology sector to be eligible for the funding.

Simul8 chief executive Laura Reid said: “The Scottish Government has recognised the importance of the digital sector for the economy and is heavily investing in its growth. The tech sector needs to match this and we are committed to helping drive the long-term growth of Scotland.”
