CodeBase expands with £100k package from Santander

The hub for start-ups, based at Argyle House in Edinburgh, opened in March and is already home to 40 fledgling firms.

It will now lease an additional 10,000 square feet of space within the 11-storey office block, a brutalist edifice that once housed government agencies such as Companies House and HM Revenue & Customs.

CodeBase managing director Jamie Coleman said: “The Santander team has been fully supportive as we expand the space available for some of the exciting start-ups who have 
decided to make their home in Edinburgh.”

The funding deal has also seen a number of tenant companies take on interns through the Santander Universities Internship programme, which aims to promote the benefits of working for small firms to third-year students or recent graduates.

Chris Green, relationship director at Santander Corporate & Commercial, said yesterday: “It has been a pleasure to work with Jamie and the management team at CodeBase to support its continued growth.”

He added: “CodeBase is expanding at a rapid pace, experiencing outstanding success and spearheading Scotland’s role in the digital economy.”

Among the companies that have taken up space at the incubator are Administrate – which develops software to help clients such as PwC and the University of York run online training programmes – and ZoneFox, a security software specialist that monitors and records activity on its clients’ systems in order to detect possible breaches.
