Co-op launches recruitment drive for directors

A recruitment drive was launched today by the Co-operative Group to identify potential board directors from among its millions of members.

The retail-to-funerals group appointed three member-nominated directors earlier this year, and up to two further directors put forward by members will be appointed under a new governance structure.

Allan Leighton, the former Asda chief executive who chairs the Co-op board, said: “We now have a highly experienced board in place and we are already seeing the benefits of this translate through into the performance and strategic direction of our business.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Co-op members to make their contribution felt in the boardroom, ensuring our co-operative values and principles are woven into the fabric of the commercially and socially motivated decisions we make.”
