The Dublin-based company, which targets golfers who are keen to avoid airline baggage fees, said bookings from its service at Edinburgh Airport for July were up 70 per cent on a year ago, boosted by demand from fans flying in from around the globe ahead of the championship tee-off on Thursday.

Chief executive Tony Judge said: “The Open has attracted more people to our Edinburgh service this week; however it’s fair to say we’ve seen significant growth over the whole of this year – particularly from American and European golfers.

“We’re planning to add even more hire sets for the Edinburgh region soon and we’re also considering bringing the service to other popular Scottish golfing destinations in the near future.”
