Clear uplift for Velux profits

VELUX, the Glenrothes-based roof window maker, posted a 22 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to £2.2 million for 2010 after heavy cost-cutting in the previous year returned the firm to growth.

Turnover at the Fife company, which is owned by Denmark-based Velux Group, lifted 2 per cent to 111m according to accounts filed at Companies House. The firm increased its prices for the second time in as many years "to help counteract the ongoing exchange rate pressure" in the UK and Ireland.

The directors said they were "satisfied" with the results given the nadir in the housing market.
