Clark appointed to helm new Space Leadership Council

NEW science minister David Willetts has wasted little time since taking over and yesterday appointed Craig Clark, chief executive of Clyde Space, to the Space Leadership Council.

The council includes representatives from industry, academia and government tasked with providing strategic advice to the UK Space Agency created in April. Clyde Space – which marked its fifth anniversary this week – supplies "small and micro spacecraft systems" and specialises in power management.

Other appointees to the council include Will Whitehorn, president of Virgin Galactic, and Andy Green, Logica chief executive, and Nigel McNair Scott, finance director of Helical Bar.

Green said: "The space sector is forecast to be a 400 billion market by 2030. The Space Leadership Council will be the engine that drives the strategy that supports a growing UK economy."
