City is planning on a business upturn

The number of planning applications in Edinburgh rose 12 per cent in the last fiscal year, giving planning convenor Jim Lowrie grounds for claiming that it was an indication of a healthy economy.

Although most of the increase was down to domestic and small-scale developments, more than 30 large works were approved in the year to the end of March.
