Charity bounces back after losses

CAPABILITY Scotland, the Edinburgh-based charity that works with sufferers of cerebral palsy and other disabilities, returned to profit last year following two years of losses.

The charity posted a £972,000 surplus in the year to 31 March, compared with a deficit of £1.6 million in the previous 12 months. The trustees said they had taken “drastic action” to address the charity’s financial position, including the closure of loss-making services, with a number of staff being made redundant.

Capability’s headcount fell to 1,146 from 2,229.
