Carluccio's making move into Edinburgh eatery market

Italian restaurant chain Carluccio's is to open its first branch in Edinburgh, marking its fourth site north of the Border.

Due to open in early 2018, the capital eatery will be located within the Mint Building, a new eight-level office development on St Andrew Square, which forms part of Chris Stewart Group’s The Registers project.

Carluccio’s, which boasts “authentic Italian food at sensible prices”, has built a sizeable presence south of the Border but has just the three sites in Scotland – two in Glasgow and one in Aberdeen. Its Edinburgh outpost will occupy the ground floor and basement levels of the Mint Building, totalling some 4,400 square feet.

Estelle Forrester, director in the retail team at property firm Savills Scotland, which worked on the deal, said: “It was important we found the right premises for the first Carluccio’s restaurant in Edinburgh and as a result the process has taken time.

“With the significant regeneration underway at St Andrew Square and a number of national leisure operators already confirmed for the area we are confident that this site will serve our client well – benefiting from strong footfall and close proximity to the main shopping streets and business locations, the train station and York Place tram stop.”
