Breedon wins £6m roads contract

Breedon Aggregates has won contracts worth more than £6 million to improve two sections of the A9 trunk road in the Highlands and Perthshire.

The firm's Dundee branch was awarded 5m of work from main contractor John Paul Construction to supply and lay bitumen and quarry materials for the widening work at Crubenmore, near Newtonmore.

Breedon will also carry out 1.2m of reconstruction work at Faskally near Pitlochry.

Chief executive Alan Mackenzie said: "The A9 is renowned as one of the accident black spots of Scotland. Widening and reconstructing the road at various points along its length is playing a key role in making it safer and we're delighted to be playing a part in that."

Breedon operates 71 sites in England and Scotland and employs about 700 staff.
