Breedon Aggregates suffers profits dip

Breedon Aggregates, the road surfaces firm previously known as Ennstone, yesterday unveiled a 6.2 per cent rise in revenue for 2010 to £143.8 million.

Underlying profits dropped by 17 per cent to 13.7m, dragged down by the heavy snow in December. The firm's operations north of the Border, where 400 of its 700 staff are based, were particularly badly hit, with turnover slipping 3.5 per cent to 75m and profits falling by 28 per cent to 10.2m.

Breedon was bought by Marwyn Materials last year in a 2.3m reverse takeover. The group owns 23 quarries, 45 asphalt and concrete plants.
