Border investment takes the biscuit

BORDER Biscuits, the Scottish family-owned food manufacturer, is investing £2.5 million in increasing capacity at its Lanark factory as it aims to grow by 50 per cent over the next few years.

The investment comes after the firm ploughed 2m into developing a production line for a new Gourmet Goodness range, which will be supplied to a number of supermarkets including Morrisons and Asda.

Border Biscuits employs 150 people from the Lanarkshire area and is hoping both investments will lead to the business expanding by half. Turnover last year reached 9.5m.

Ewan Anderson, sales director of Border Biscuits, said: "The launch of the new range follows an investment in the capacity and capability of the plant, a new production line, an advertising campaign on STV and an extensive redesign of the packaging and website.

"There is a real opportunity in the premium biscuit category and we're looking to expand the business throughout the UK and abroad by continuing to produce the best quality biscuits that we can possibly bake."

The independent company was started 25 years ago.
