Bookmaker to sponsor Hamilton Park meeting

Hamilton Park racecourse has secured sponsorship from William Hill for one of its biggest meetings of the season.

The bookmaker will be title sponsor of the Braveheart Night meeting on 13 May, which will feature the course's richest horse race of the 2011 season. The Friday night fixture, one of Hamilton's "super six", is worth 75,000 in prize-money across six races.

The level of sponsorship was not disclosed, but Hamilton chief executive Vivien Kyles said it was "invaluable" and would help attract top names.

The racecourse also confirmed Paul Cooney, managing director of Global Radio Scotland, as the latest addition to its board.

The Lanarkshire-born businessman and broadcaster has a long association with Hamilton Park - most recently through his involvement with the charity Cash for Kids.
