Bombardier may be thrown a lifeline

HOPES are growing that Bombardier of Derby, Britain’s last train manufacturer, may be given a £120 million lifeline that could save hundreds of jobs.

The Department of Transport is said to be considering giving Canadian‑owned Bombardier a project to upgrade trains on the Cross Country line.

The plant has been under threat since losing a £1.4 billion contract to build Thameslink trains to Siemens.
