Mark Ross, who had been on the board of the Glasgow-based company for four years before he left this week, is understood to have joined another business in a different sector.

Alison Scammell, the firm’s supply chain director, has also left the company this week, although it is thought her departure was unrelated to that of Ross.

Geraldine Wood, chief operating officer, who has been with the business for more than 12 years, has been appointed managing director. Co-founder Colin Black remains as a senior optometrist.

Black & Lizars operates a 24-strong branch network in Scotland, from Aberdeen to Ayr. It also has a practice in Northern Ireland.

The company said it will continue to expand by acquisition and organic growth. In December, it acquired John Trotter & Co. Under the deal, the Trotter name has been retained along with the practice’s current staff.
