BlackBerry maker to cut 2,000 jobs

BLACKBERRY maker Research In Motion (Rim) is cutting 2,000 jobs as part of a cost saving plan announced last month and is shuffling some senior executives.

The cull amounts to about 10 per cent of the Canadian company's workforce. It said yesterday that it would notify affected employees this week.

Rim also announced that its chief operating officer, Don Morrison, was planning to retire and Thorsten Heins would be taking on the expanded role of chief operating officer, product and sales. The firm reports its results in September.
