The 180-year-old firm, which runs 25 practices across Scotland, will be hoping for a sales boost through its exposure to the three million annual visits made to 30 leisure venues, including the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

The three-year alliance will see Black & Lizars’ message regarding eye care disseminated across a range of media, with “catchy, sporting-themed slogans”.

Other facilities operated by not-for-profit Edinburgh Leisure on behalf of the city council include Meadowbank Sports Centre.

Mark Ross, chief executive of Black and Lizars, said: “We understand the importance of community leisure services in promoting health and well-being. This partnership will reinforce these goals by emphasising the importance of good eye care across a number of sporting activities.”
