Big to expand as Sturzaker departs

SCOTLAND’S biggest public relations agency has taken the wraps off its new headquarters in Glasgow and pledged to add significantly to its payroll.

The Big Partnership, rated the biggest independent agency outside London, has relocated from Park Circus to Charing Cross and spent £250,000 in a refurbishment that will complete new office investment in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Liverpool.

It says it “now has the capacity to significantly increase its 98-strong workforce in the next ten years to help service increasing demand.”

The announcement, however, comes after The Scotsman revealed that it had lost two of its senior executives. Former Daily Record editor Bruce Waddell, believed to be earning a six-figure sum, resigned in May to join a charity, while Nicki Sturzaker, the £70,000-a-year head of its Edinburgh office, left suddenly two weeks ago by mutual agreement to pursue “a different strategic direction”. She confirmed she had no job lined up.

For the fifth time in six years Big has retained its position as the largest UK PR consultancy outside of London, in the PR Week Top-150 annual rankings. The agency was also ranked at no 23 in the top 50 consumer consultancies – the only Scottish agency to make the list.

Big’s founding director Alex Barr said: “2013 is shaping up to be an important year for us and we see increased revenues and positive prospects.

“We have invested in new office accommodation for our Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow teams, while we have also opened our first office in England, with our Liverpool team already making an impact in the north-west.”
