Bid for greatness as town granted £20k

PEEBLES yesterday became the first town in the Borders to declare its intention to develop a business improvement district (Bid), and has been awarded £20,000 of Scottish Government funding to help the project.

The Bid is being spearheaded by Positively Peebles, a group set up by a local community council to solve the problem of empty shops on the town's high street.

David Pye, of Positively Peebles said: "We believe Peebles can build on its strong foundations and that a Bid is the best model to achieve this. Tourism is vital for the town, so Bid projects may include improving signs and marketing initiatives."
