The opening of the site, along with a further branch on the city’s Hanover Street, brings the total number of Barrhead outlets in the Scottish capital to six.

Barrhead, founded in 1975, has created 20 jobs with the two new Edinburgh branches, which come after an investment of almost £1.5 million in the business over the past year. The firm now employs about 850 staff across 56 locations.

Chief executive Sharon Munro said: “This growth is being driven by increased customer demand across all areas of the business. As we grow our footprint in key locations throughout the country, we are also making moves to strengthen the depth of our specialist travel team knowledge to ensure that we meet our commitment to deliver the best and most comprehensive travel experience to our customers.

“We can only do this by attracting, retaining and growing the best people in the industry.”

Edinburgh Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar added: “Barrhead Travel and Edinburgh Airport share similar ambitious plans for growth and I am confident their venture here will be a great success.”
