Bank deal backs dental practice expansion move

A £1.8 MILLION investment backed by Clydesdale Bank has seen the opening of the biggest dental practice of its kind in Scotland.

Alloa-based Macdonald & Morson Dental Care, which treats private and NHS patients, is moving to a purpose-built facility in the Clackmannanshire town.

A substantial proportion of the cost is being met by a loan from Clydesdale Bank, with additional funding provided by NHS Scotland and the practice’s owners, Dr Charles Macdonald and Dr Gordon Morson.

The 11,500sq ft dental centre has 12,000 patients and the move will enable numbers to increase by about 20 per cent to meet demand in the area.

The practice, which currently employs four dentists and three hygienists, is recruiting seven extra staff as a result of increased capacity, including two dentists and a hygienist. In total, it will employ a team of 30 staff.

Macdonald, the senior partner, said: “Building premises from scratch is allowing us to 
expand significantly, and increase our service provision. Widening access to dental care is key to tackling Scotland’s poor record on oral health.
