Assab wins £1m contract for new hospital

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde has awarded a £1 million contract for fitting out science laboratories at its new south Glasgow hospital project to Govan-based Assab, the lab equipment arm of housing and maintenance company Morris & Spottiswood.

The health board is building a 840m "super hospital" on the site of the current Southern General to create "one of the most advanced medical campuses in Europe".

The project is said to be Scotland's largest single healthcare investment.

Assab beat off competition from 16 other tenders to win the contract, which will begin this month and run for 23 weeks.

Previous contracts carried out by the firm north of the Border include work for Glasgow University, Glasgow Caledonian University, the Scottish Police Services Authority forensics crime lab in Dundee and Langside College in Glasgow.

South of the Border, it has completed contracts for Imperial College in London and Proctor & Gamble in Newcastle.
