As well as the original Edinburgh Gin line and the brand's rhubarb and ginger spirit that launched in stores earlier this year, the Walmart-owned retailer will be the first major supermarket to stock three varieties of the flavoured range, also comprising raspberry and elderflower, at 44 stores north of the Border.

Heather Turnbull, buying manager for Asda Scotland, said: “Above all else, customers are focusing on Scottish provenance and products that use the finest home-grown ingredients possible.

“We’ve made a considerable expansion to our beers, wines and spirits offering over the last year such as launching new Scottish vodka from Valt, new whisky lines and 25 craft beer lines from breweries across the country.”

Alex Nicol, co-founder of Edinburgh Gin, added that it's crucial for everyone to have "the opportunity to experience a high-quality, great-tasting product" with the latest Asda deal enabling consumers "access to a quality product distilled with pride in Scotland".

The Edinburgh Gin range is produced at Rutland Place and The Biscuit Factory in Edinburgh. Last month Tamdhu distiller Ian Macleod acquired the Edinburgh Gin brand's owner Spencerfield Spirit Company.
