Asda set to stock Brownings' Kilmarnock pies in 46 stores

Brownings the Bakers has kicked off its new supply contract with Asda, which will see the retailer stock the family business’ Kilmarnock pies in 46 stores across Scotland.

The family firm was established in 1945 by the grandparents of current MD John Gall. The firm claims that its most famous product, the Kilmarnock Pie, is “well-known as the best pie in Scottish football”.

It is billed as “unique” in that it is a traditional Scotch pie shell filled with chunks of beef plus a secret blend of rich gravy and topped with a flaky puff pastry lid.

Gall said: “Becoming a supplier to Asda for the first time with our Kilmarnock Pie is fantastic. Brownings is a proud, family-run, traditional company, now employing over 180 staff. We handcraft all our products from a purpose-built bakery and savoury factory.

“Our founding principles haven’t changed - a local business sourcing the finest ingredients to create products of the highest quality. Those principles have served the company for over 70 years and continues to be the philosophy today.”

Heather Turnbull, Asda’s regional buying manager for Scotland, said: “Brownings employs traditional craft skills, creating bakery products from scratch recipes rather than pre-mixes, and has been crowned Scottish Baker of the Year 2018, and World Scotch Pie Champions 2017.

“At Asda we are so passionate about supporting local companies and their produce. The Kilmarnock pie is a Scottish institution and we are excited to be able to bring it to our customers.”
