Amazon funds training to upskill Scottish staff

Amazon is celebrating National Learning at Work Week by urging its staff in Scotland to sign up for a programme that offers funded training.

Under the Career Choice scheme, the tech giant pre-pays 95 per cent of tuition and associated fees – up to £8,000 over four years – for employees to complete training in high demand fields such as engineering, IT, mechanical and electrical trades, and transportation.

Scot McKeen, who has worked at Amazon in Dunfermline since 2010, qualified as a heavy goods vehicle driver this week after participating in the programme.

He said: “The Amazon Career Choice programme has been brilliant for me and I can’t thank Amazon enough for the opportunity to develop my driving skills.

“I’ve already qualified to drive one class of HGV and I’ve just passed an assessment for another class, which is a real bonus for me and my career.”
