The vehicle manufacturing group, established by brothers Michael and Gerry Facenna in 1993, is now wholly owned by Gerry and his three sons: Gerry, David and Peter.

The move will see Michael exit all of Allied’s subsidiaries and means he is no longer a co-owner of the Glasgow Tigers speedway team, which the family purchased in 2014.

He has been “progressing towards retirement” and gradually stepping back from the business, which is a major Glasgow employer, over recent years, said the company.

Allied has a turnover of around £155 million a year and a headcount of more than 700 staff – the vast majority of which are based at its manufacturing and administrative headquarters in Possilpark.

The group produces some 6,000 vehicles each year, supplying around 45 per cent of the UK’s accessible vehicles, and encompasses divisions such as assistive living aids retailer Mobility Superstores and an automotive after-sales service.

Allied also holds partnerships with the likes of Peugeot and Vauxhall to provide accident repair services and UK-wide parts distribution.

It is currently being led by managing director Peter Facenna.

In a statement, Allied said: “For some time now, Michael Facenna, who co-founded the company with Gerry in 1993, has been stepping back from the business, progressing towards retirement.

“Taking this a stage further, on Friday 6 March, Michael and his family ceased to be involved in the Allied Group of companies (including Glasgow Tigers Speedway).”
