Aldi’s £1m boost for Scots food

Aldi said a move to stock Scottish produce across all its UK stores for Burns Night will result in a £1 million boost for suppliers.

The supermarket chain has stocked 18 different products, from haggis to homemade tablet, in all 500 of its stores.

Producers including chutneys and preserves maker Arran Fine Foods, based on the Isle of Arran, took part in the sales push with an order worth £80,000 to the firm. East Renfreshire confectionery firm Aldomak secured a £30,000 deal.

Richard Holloway, Scottish managing director at Aldi, said: “It is a great opportunity for our suppliers to showcase their products across the UK and Ireland, helping them to capitalise on a key event in the food and drink calendar.

“Our commitment to Scottish producers reflects the ongoing strength, increasing demand and continued growth of Scotland’s food and drink industry.”
