Akzo unveils plans for £100m plant

Dulux paint and Polycell filler manufacturer AkzoNobel is to build a £100 million plant in the north-east of England. The Dutch giant said it will close its existing plant in the north-east at Prudhoe and also the manufacturing part of its Slough facility once the new factory is up and running, which is expected to be in 2014.

These two plants currently employ 220 in manufacturing and Akzo said it has entered a three-month consultation with staff ahead of making a final decision on its plan. Akzo expects the new plant to create more jobs in the north-east.
