Airports deal to help QikServe app take off

QIKSERVE, an Edinburgh-based software firm which has developed an app that enables customers to order and pay for meals in cafés and restaurants with their mobile phone, has struck a deal with a global airport catering chain.

HMShost International, the world’s top provider of food and drink services to travellers at more than 100 airport locations worldwide, has begun rolling out QikServes’ “waiter in your pocket” app at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport following a successful pilot scheme at the end of 2014.

The app will enable passengers to order food and drink ahead of time while going through security, en route to their gates or disembarking flights. The QikServe app integrates with Oracle Hospitality’s systems, meaning that orders appear on the till as if entered by a waiter.

QikServe’s chief executive and co-founder Ronnie Forbes said the agreement was “potentially transformational” for the company.

“It adds to our international expansion and demonstrates the potential for our product to scale up.”
