Agreement set to lift UK's wind industry

Campbeltown-based CS Wind UK, which supplies steel towers to the wind industry, and Swedish state-owned wind farm developer Vattenfall are to sign an agreement today marking what is deemed a 'vote of confidence' for this type of energy in the UK.

The memorandum of understanding will see the two commit to co-operate over potential future contract and supply opportunities for Vattenfall’s UK development pipeline.

The signing, at Campbeltown Town Hall, is being witnessed by Scottish energy minister Paul Wheelhouse MSP. It comes the day before the start of a £27 million investment by CS Wind UK to heighten capacity at its Machrihanish facility.

Wheelhouse said the collaboration “will help to deliver on our aim to capture, for Scottish engineering and the wider renewables supply chain, a far greater share of the economic value arising from the construction phase of wind energy projects”.
