Agency hits £1m milestone

AN ONLINE design agency that lists Gazprom, Holiday Inn Express and IBM among its clients has broken through the £1 million turnover barrier and posted a 33 per cent rise in profits just two years after overhauling the business.

Revenues at Glasgow-based Alienation Digital – which carries out web design, marketing and social media work – reached £1.03m during the year to 31 March, up from £778,000 in the previous 12 months.

The firm’s pre-tax profits were just shy of £142,000, up from £107,000.

Owned by managing director Neil Barr, the business changed its name from “Alienation Design” as part of a fresh strategy to breathe new life into an operation that had been “coasting” since it was originally set up in 1997.

Barr brought in new managers – sales director David Johnston and operations director Martin Bryce – and has been adding other staff members as well. Alienation has grown from fewer than ten to 25 staff during the past two years.

Two of those staff members work from the London office.
