Aberdeen’s EnerMech targets India with Mumbai opening

ENGINEERING group EnerMech is opening an office in India to target the country’s fast-growing oil and gas sector.

The Aberdeen-based firm, which in May launched a £40 million expansion in the United States, said that its Mumbai office will be followed by the opening of a workshop and storage facility in India’s Andrah Pradesh region by the end of the year.

EnerMech said the services it offers – such as providing pipelines, umbilicals and cranes – can add value to exploration and contractor companies operating in the region.

Managing director Doug Duguid said: “India’s oil and gas industry is of major importance to us as we continue to internationalise the business. We are making a significant capital investment in infrastructure, equipment and in placing expert personnel in-country, which fits our long-term strategy of extending our footprint in India.”

The move into India, described as a “multi-million dollar investment”, ties in to the firm’s expansion plan that will see bases being opened in Brisbane, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Western Australia.

To drive its expansion plans, EnerMech has appointed former Halliburton executive Steve Watson, who has experience of the Indian market, as country manager. The firm has launched a recruitment campaign for engineering and design staff.
