Aberdeen’s Baird Family Hospital and Anchor Centre scheme is the largest project to be procured through the Health Facilities Scotland Framework and Graham is preparing to go on site next month.

Gary Holmes, regional MD for Graham – which in Scotland is present in Glasgow, Livingston and Aberdeen – said: "These are pioneering facilities that will enhance healthcare provision in the North-East of Scotland for decades to come. It’s a landmark contract for us and moves our business on to the next level of delivery. We now look forward to working with NHS Grampian and their stakeholders throughout the construction phase."

The Baird Family Hospital will be built on the site formerly occupied by the Foresterhill Health Centre and Breast Screening Centre on the Foresterhill Health Campus. It will unite all maternity, neonatal, reproductive medicine, breast and gynaecology services as well as a patient hotel and dedicated teaching and research facilities.

The Anchor Centre will attach to the existing radiotherapy centre and bring all haematology, oncology and radiotherapy day and outpatient services under one roof. There will also be a dedicated lounge for teenage and young adult patients, an aseptic pharmacy to produce chemotherapy treatments, and dedicated teaching and research facilities.

The new facilities are expected to help modernise patient care and facilities at the Foresterhill Health Campus, Europe’s biggest healthcare site, and form part of NHS Grampian's continued investment in new and improved facilities across the North-East.

NHS Grampian director Alan Gray said: “Both projects will provide world-class facilities for staff, patients and their families and an environment that has been designed with accessibility, quality and patient care firmly at the centre.

"We would not have reached this stage if had not been for the commitment and dedication by our combined projects teams, who have faced numerous challenges professionally and who have worked collaboratively to enable the project to proceed. We look forward to seeing the buildings emerge in the coming months.”
