Aberdeen-Angus cows sell for £22,000

THE Rawburn Aberdeen-Angus herd of the Elliot family, Roxburgh Mains, has sold two top cows to new breeder Neil Ainsworth, Blackburn, for sum of £22,000.

The first of the purchases at 12,000 was Rawburn Duchess Prairielane J928, a 13-month-old heifer with top Canadian blood in her ancestry.

Selling for 10,000 was the five-year-old cow Rawburn Ebony D288 and her calf sired by Rawburn Lord Ross, C216.

The cattle have since been moved to Richard and Carol Rettie's Alloa farm to be managed on behalf of Mr Ainsworth. Commenting on his prize purchases, Mr Ainsworth said: "I am extremely confident that, with the purchase of Rawburn Duchess Prairielane and Rawburn Ebony, we will have a strong foundation for our new Aberdeen-Angus herd."
