83 jobs lost as Fife electronics company Micronas announces closure


Micronas Limited, based in Southfield Industrial Estate, will shut its doors in April as part of a restructuring process.
Staff have been informed of the decision, and a consultation process has begun.

Hide AdThe company, which produces electronic sensors for the automotive industry, has German owners, TDK-Micronas.
Peter Grant, MP for Glenrothes, said the closure was “a huge blow” for the town, and noted that just two years ago the company was talking in terms of moving work from Germany to the Fife town.
He has contacted Micronas and called on bosses to give a full and open explanation“ on what has gone wrong.
Councillor Altany Craik, who is Fife Council’s economy convener, said the local authority would offer workers support through PACE which was set up to help when redundancies were announced.
Micronas opened in Glenrothes in 1994.
