Electric Jukebox Company launched its service earlier this week at a high-profile event in London, which featured video links by celebrity music playlist curators Sheryl Crow, Robbie Williams, and Stephen Fry.

The service promises “the benefits of a premium music streaming subscription service in a box but without the need for a smartphone, PC, or monthly subscription”.

London-listed 7digital said it was licensing its platform for the Electric Jukebox product in both the UK and US. The firm will also curate playlists with expertise from its content production division.

Simon Cole, chief executive of 7digital, said: “The model represents exactly the kind of service which will be part of the ‘Third Wave’ of digital music – targeting the 90 per cent of people who consume music at home but who do not use the current generation of streaming services.”
