MUSIC: BLUEFLINT

Scottish alt-folk and bluegrass band Blueflint will perform live at Leith Folk Club this evening. The five-piece released their critically acclaimed third album Stories From Home in March this year and have previously toured with The Proclaimers. Championed by the likes of Steve Lamacq and Edith Bowman, Blueflint are ones to watch on the Scottish folk music scene.

LITERATURE: IN CONVERSATION WITH KAREN JOY FOWLER

Award-winning US author Karen Joy Fowler visits St Andrews tonight to discuss her latest novel, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2014. The writer will also be answering questions on her other work. Fowler famously penned best-selling 2004 novel The Jane Austen Book Club, which was made into a film three years later.

COMEDY: KEIR MCALLISTER

October’s monthly comedy night at The Green Room in Perth welcomes headliner Scottish comedian Keir McAllister along with special guest performers Rob Kane and Jay Lafferty. Billy Kirkwood will act as compere. Known for his impressive stage presence and quick wit, McAllister is a seasoned Fringe veteran.

EXHIBITION: CLASSICAL ART - THE LEGACY OF THE ANCIENTS

This newly extended exhibition showcases the huge impact Greek and Roman culture has made on the art world over the centuries. The collection features an impressive selection of paintings, sculpture and other fine art pieces dating as far back as 450 BC. Visitors will also get the chance to see Roman artefacts discovered locally, including rare armour.

THEATRE: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s groundbreaking rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar is in Glasgow this week. Glenn Carter returns to portray Jesus after taking on the role in London’s West End, on Broadway and on film. Well-known musical theatre actor Tim Rogers plays Judas Iscariot and X Factor finalist Rachel Adedeji appears as Mary Magdalene.
