Comedian Hal Cruttenden will be ranting about all his pet hates tonight in Glasgow, from over-sharing on social media to the 5:2 diet. Cruttenden has hosted everything from Live At The Apollo to The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice but his new solo show Straight Outta Cruttenden is as brilliant and bizarre as its title.

POETRY: BLIND POETICS

Monthly spoken word event Blind Poetics is taking place in Edinburgh’s Blind Poet pub tonight. A brilliant platform for upcoming writers and performers, poets appearing at Blind Poetics typically read flash fiction and short stories as well. Hosted by Alec Beattie and Roddy Shippin, Blind Poetics welcomes Edinburgh’s Kevin Cadwallender, who will appear alongside some of the city’s freshest spoken word talent.

FILM: CITY LIGHTS

One of Charlie Chaplin’s best-loved films, City Lights, will screen at Dundee Contemporary Arts this evening, more than 80 years after its original release. Made on the brink of the ‘talkies’ film revolution in Hollywood, City Lights shows how Chaplin stubbornly clung to silent movies for years before finally accepting that sound in cinema was more than just a passing fad. This Chaplin film is said to be a favourite of many great directors including Federico Fellini, Orson Welles and Stanley Kubrick.

MUSIC: SISTERS OF MERCY

Revived Leeds gothic rock band Sisters of Mercy are touring re-worked classics and rare material in Glasgow’s O2 ABC. Fans will be pleased to hear that original frontman Andrew Eldritch is still taking centre stage with Sisters of Mercy, nearly 40 years after he first formed the band with Gary Marx.

EXHIBITION: PHYLLIDA BARLOW - SET

This week is your last chance to see Phyllida Barlow’s latest exhibition Set at Edinburgh’s Fruitmarket Gallery. Barlow is known for producing impressive sculptures using simple materials such as plywood, cardboard and paint. This particular exhibition borrows inspiration from the outside world, and takes over most of the gallery, spilling from the upper gallery onto the ground floor.
