MUSIC: TEXAS

Returning for a hometown show at the SSE Hydro, Sharleen Spiteri and co. will no doubt receive a warm welcome from the Glasgow crowd. Marking the band’s 25th anniversary, Texas will be playing a plethora of hits from their back catalogue reworked for their latest album Texas 25.

EVENT: RALLY & BROAD: THE ANTI-SLAM

Poetry slams have become a highly competitive and essential part of a thriving UK scene - but London-based poets Paula Varjack & Dan Simpson are looking to send up the whole thing at their ‘anti-slam’ takeover. Ten poets will take on alter-egos and compete to be the worst poet possible, with the title being decided by a team of judges. A fun sign-off to the year by an Edinburgh spoken-word institution.

ART: GRANITE VIDEO

Making up part of National Theatre Scotland’s ‘Granite Project’ - a celebration of Aberdeen’s past, present and future - 60 windows across the city centre are set to be lit up tonight with video portraits of the changing faces of Aberdeen throughout the years. Venues involved in this outdoor art installation include His Majesty’s Theatre, Central Library and the Maritime Museum.

FOOD & DRINK: CHRISTMAS JUNIPER FESTIVAL

On Britain’s booziest day of the year, Summerhall is offering the more classy alternative with their Christmas gin festival. Brands who will be stocking the gin bar include Pickering’s, Minus 33, Daffy’s, Strathearn, Shetland Reel Rock Rose, Crossbill & Eden Mill. There’s also beer from Barney’s available too, in case you’re bringing non-gin converts along.
