Who would attend your fantasy dinner party? I'd invite my parents (who are no longer with us), as well as my son, wife and sister.

Whom did you last text? I landed in Spain about an hour ago. I texted my wife to say; "I miss you already."

It's not cool but...Who cares? I'm sick of what's cool.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

My dad told me that everyone should be treated equally.

What's the worst job you ever had? Cleaning toilets was the worst, but I also worked as an usher at a cinema and as a hospital theatre porter.

Who is your favourite fictional character? Detective Harry Bosch from the Michael Connolly crime novels. He's an everyday guy who's intellectual.

What are you afraid of? Nothing really. Although I'm slightly nervous of death, as I get closer to it.

Did you have a nickname growing up? Ranks. Or, when I moved to England from Scotland, Jock. Although, I didn't encourage that.

What situations make you lose your temper? It's sometimes on set that I get frustrated, rather than lose my temper, when something isn't technically correct.

What would your alternative profession be? A doctor or teacher. I did a couple of days' teaching recently, in front of a class of 16-year-olds, and it was tough, but I loved it.

What food or drink is always in your fridge? Sparkling water.

If you could change something about yourself, what would it be? I've always wanted to be taller.

If you could travel back in time, where would you go? I'd like to go back and see my parents again, when I was nine years old. That was the time when they gave me my set of values.

Saturday night or Sunday morning? Sunday morning.

Who or what is the love of your life? My son and wife.
