The walk starts from Cramond and follows the river upstream as far as the railway line on the eastern boundary of Edinburgh Airport. A loop by track and minor road then leads back to the river.

An independent volunteer conservation group, the Friends of the River Almond Walkway (www.friendsof theriveralmondwalkway.org.uk) has committed to improving the walkway and surroundings, and would welcome your support.

They have monthly working parties, carrying out small improvements around the walkway, such as removing invasive species, tidying ivy from old buildings and opening entrance points to make access easier. They are also involved in some major projects including the replacement of the Salvesen Steps and the extension of the walkway as far as Kirkliston.
