Up and coming: Girlyman

WHO is Girlyman? Not be confused with Skinnyman or Beardyman, Girlyman actually comprises two girlies – school friends Doris Muramatsu and Tylan Greenstein – and one man – Nate Borofsky. This Atlanta-based harmony trio grew up on the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and Metallica, and look like a quirky indie group, but their warm, accessible sound owes more to mainstream Americana.

What's the (back) story?

The trio formed in Brooklyn in 2001 and got off to a bad start by slating their first rehearsal for 11 September. But since then, they have independently released three studio albums and a live compilation.

Any current releases?

Their latest album, Everything's Easy, was recorded, bluegrass-style, round one $10,000 microphone, which they paid for with money donated by their fans. Judging by their pristine vocal interplay, it was money well spent.

Any other competent business?
