Under the radar

Glasgow's GoGoBot, above, caught our attention at this year's Go North with their combination of killer hooks, anthemic choruses and a catchy blend of synth-driven electro rock.

In 2011 they plan to digitally release six singles on Measured Records with the first, Is This Love?, due on 24 January. In the meantime the aptly titled We Are Here is a perfect introduction to what lies ahead. www.nohalfmeasures.com/gogobot

GoGoBot kick start the year – as do around 70 bands including French Wives, Bwani Junction, Stanley Odd and Endor – with a slot as part of the King Tut's Revolution Festival from 2-16 January. This coincides with the venue releasing a free compilation taster album to download via the website in return for filling out a little survey.

Congratulations to Stella Reilly, the Perthshire schoolgirl who has won the UK-wide Young Songwriter competition which raises money for children's charities. The quality is extremely high, with tracks from former UTR track of the month acts like Homework, Capitals, Bronto Skylift, Rachel Sermanni and Panda Su. And on the subject of forthcoming music business events, Kid Adrift is set to perform at Eurosonic, which might best be described as where Europe's festival organisers go to shop for the bands they will be booking in the summer. A week later, UTR favourite Mangomad will be performing at the giant Midem convention, which takes place in Cannes.

Meanwhile, news reaches us that Tim Plummly, the man who handles Frightened Rabbit's stateside publicity, has now taken on Bronto Skylift. This should set them up well for their series of US dates, due to take place around SXSW in March. A further boost will come from the fact that their manager, Charlie Clark, is also planning to open a venue in LA following the success he and his wife had had with the Jger Room in Stornoway.
