London’s National Gallery came out on top in the website’s Travellers’ Choice awards, with the British Museum second and the Victoria and Albert Museum in third place.

One of the top reviews for Kelvingrove said: “Great museum with plenty to see and do. A much loved family attraction in the west end of Glasgow. A great way to spend a few hours if you have never been and still worth a return if you have” while a fan of the National Museum of Scotland added: “A fantastic museum with something to interest just about anyone. We spent about three hours here on a rainy Saturday but still didn’t feel it was too busy.

“We could easily have stayed another two hours, and we will most definitely be back.”

Kelvingrove is perhaps best known for being home to Salvador Dali’s painting Christ of St John of the Cross, which has been on display in the museum since 1952.
