BABY MAKERS: THE FERTILITY CLINIC
BBC4, 9pm
With sperm counts falling and couples leaving it later to have children, this warm, humane documentary goes behind the scenes of one of the largest fertility clinics in the country. It features candid insight from the dedicated staff – including affable head honcho Charles Kingsland, who’s fond of colourful car and football analogies – as they play a profound yet difficult role in people’s lives.
THE POLAR BEAR FAMILY AND ME
BBC2, 9:30pm
In this captivating new series – which airs throughout the week – wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan attempts to get closer to polar bears than anyone has managed before (cue a Jaws-style encounter inside his man-sized “ice cube”). He follows a family over three seasons in the hope of finding out more about these beautiful yet deadly creatures.
THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH
Film4, 11am
Entirely encased in clown make-up throughout, James Stewart essayed one of his more unusual roles in this entertaining circus drama from that master of Hollywood spectacle, Cecil B DeMille.
