WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Annalise Keating is Philadelphia’s top criminal defence lawyer who also teaches post-grad criminal law at Middleton University. Every year she selects her top students to become interns in her office, giving them hands-on experience of working cases, who become known as the Keating five.

The show opens to four of the five discussing what to do with the body of someone they’ve just murdered and then flashes back to three months previously, where everyone is talking about a student who has been missing for weeks.

Working in both present day and flashbacks, the story unfolds until we find out exactly what happened on murder night.

WHO’S IN IT?

Viola Davis plays defence lawyer Professor Annalise Keating. Viola is best known for her Academy Award nominated role of Aibileen Clark in The Help.

Alfred Enoch portrays Wes Gibbins, one of the Keating five. Alfred played Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter films.

Matt McGorry plays Asher Millstone, the only one of the Keating five who wasn’t involved in the opening scene of murder night. Matt previously played Officer Bennett in Orange is the New Black.

Liza Weil, best known as the Gilmore Girls’ Paris Geller, portrays Bonnie Winterbottom, Esq, an associate attorney in Annalise’s firm.

The cast is rounded out by Billy Brown, Jack Falahee, Aja Naomi King, Karla Souza, Charlie Weber and Katie Findlay.

IS IT WORTH WATCHING?

It was one of the highest new shows of last season and has received awards and nominations from a clutch of prestigious bodies, including the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globes.

It constantly receives high praise from reviewers, and with such a gripping plot it’s easy to see why.

WHERE CAN I SEE IT?

How To Get Away With Murder is an American import from ABC, so it hasn’t been on UK television yet. Luckily, it’s on Netflix, where subscribers can stream the whole first season.
