3pm Visit the Museo Nazionale (Piazza Museo, 19 Napoli, tel: [phone]) to view treasures taken from the cities buried when Vesuvius erupted in AD79.

5pm Head for the Via Toledo thoroughfare, where you'll find chocolate shop Gay Odin (427 Via Toledo, tel: [phone], www.gay-odin.it) and, nearby, Ferrari (60 Via M Cervantes, tel: [phone]) – a design shop with pieces by the likes of Alessi.

8pm Return flight to Edinburgh.
